"To put the world in order, we must first put the nation in order; to put the nation in order, we must put the family in order; to put the family in order, we must cultivate our personal life; and to cultivate our personal life, we must first set our hearts right."

Here's a mashup of classical, straight-ahead rock and electro. This is quite unlike most music I create (including the religious overtones near the end)...but then again I love going off on strange tangents (and this would qualify) and mixing genres that normally keep to themselves.

Laid-back, downtempo, jazzy track with minimal effects, live acoustic bass, drums, piano and guitar, sexy vocals (en Français). Dedicated to my wife.

Groovy little track featuring cool arpeggiated analogue synths and lots of classic synth soloing.

Heavy old-school sequencing, simple, intermingling melodies and Berlin-school analogue synth aplenty. Very reminiscent of Virgin-era Tangerine Dream (circa '75-'77) and Jean Michelle Jarre (Oxygene). Part II of my "Theories of Altered Spaces Trilogy".

I can't believe I wrote a 4-minute pop song! Those who know me, know my penchant for long, sprawling, sequencer-heavy instrumental tracks with several intertwining themes that slowly morph...this is not one of them. I've done more "mainstream" songs before, but this is a very short (for me) adrenaline-rush of a tune...fuzz bass, acoustic drums, heavy guitar, just a bit of synth and gorgeous (yet processed) vocals courtesy of Calendar Girl.

When I work on a new track, I usually start just playing around and experimenting with various sounds, beats, melodies, looking for a common theme that sticks, then building a track around it if it's working for me or my mood at that moment. I usually throw away 90% of every track, keeping only 10% in the final mix. This track is an example of some early playing around which later became "Cuban Nights", but rather than throw it away, I kept it ...I'm not sure why, I just liked it too much to throw away. It's only 1:47 long, so not a real song...more like a collection of musical ideas, or perhaps an intro to "Cuban Nights".

When I first got Acid Pro I did a bunch of experimenting, and part of a track that I saved was the basis for "Cuban Nights". That was a couple of years ago, and lately I've been experimenting again with various world styles, which reminded me of that peice I had done so long ago. I started playing around with it again and started really having fun with it, eventually adding some jazz and rock elements (I love to skip between genres).

I had so much fun putting music to Calendar Girl's beautiful vocals that I had to do another one. This time, I went back to the early eighties for a synth pop sound that reminds me of early Depeche Mode, Yaz, Human League, etc.

I used the amazing vocals (of Amelia June) recorded for "Lies" by Trifonic, a San Francisco-based electronic act, but I put a totally new instrumentation and chord structure to it, which gives it a more earthy flavour than the also-cool original.
