I had come up with a really cool blues riff, but it really needed vocals. I found Scomber’s “Bondi Blonde” acapella quite by accident and the instant I heard it I knew that it would fit beautifully. Before listening to the actual “Bondi Blonde” tune I incorporated the vocals and fleshed out the track…only then did I listen to Scomber’s version—which is quite cool and a totally different style than mine. Incidentally, the song is a tribute to a beer from Australia.

For this one I started out exactly the opposite as with Bondi Blonde. I had wanted to produce a hip hop song for a few years, and had tried a few times and failed miserably (it's actually not easy at all to create GOOD hip hop). I don't listen to a lot of hip hop, and virtually nothing that is produced today (I'm definitely "old-skool", think Run DMC to LL Cool J). Anyway, this time I started by looking for a good rap acapella that was begging for "old-skool" backing music...and I found it in an acapella by FORENSIC.

This album really seems to be going in a direction of experimenting with new (more mainstream) music genres and a more organic sound (hmmm...I'll have to correct that soon). Here's my take on soul music...I really think I've captured an authentic Motown sound.

This one came together so nicely, and it's what I'd call the Astroglider signature sound. A combination of my favourite electronic bands: Tangerine Dream, Orbital, Mind Flux, Underworld and early Jean Michelle Jarre.

When I was growing up, I used to be amzed by synthesizers and would often dream about having a collection of cutting-edge synths (such as the Minimoog, Arp-2600, Oberheim OB-1, Prophet 5, Fairlight CMI, etc.) like my heroes of the 1970's. I suppose because I "grew up" in the 1970's and 1980's I am still mesmerized by the unique sounds created by the simple analogue circuits of these now classic instuments. What blows me away most about making music using a personal computer as a primary instrument these days is that I can have that same collection of synthesizers I coveted many years ago but thought I would never have (and it all fits in a small room!).

This mellow track is mainly done with a Minimoog and a Mellotron for a classic 1970's Berlin-school sound.

I came across an article about Mima Mounds and the phenomenon fascinates me, so I knew I had to write a song about it. If you've never heard about them, they are mysterious mounds of soil that occur all over the world...mysterious because no one knows how they are formed or why they exist. Theories include native peoples' burial mounds, remnants of glacial activity, interactions of the soil with earthquake vibrations, or the cumulative action of gophers or other burrowing animals over a long period of time. Here's the very interesting article.

For this tune, like many other tunes, I had the music but something was missing, and I knew it was ripe for vocals. I came across an acapella from a BT track that fit perfectly, such that to me it sounds like I recorded the vocals specifically for my music, and I actually think they work far better than the track they were originally recorded for. I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out, I think this is the best music I have done so far.

I really love ryhthms from non-Western places in the world, and I really love a good mashup of raw, tribal, ethnic sounds and syncopated beats and structured electronic melodies...and that's exactly what this is about.

Here's my third song featurting vocals by Calendar Girl. This one is a mellow tune featuring acoustic guitar and piano.

Presenting my first rock opera! This is a trippy, atmospheric voyage to some of my favourite places in the world at night. It ventures in and out of several themes, held together by periods of moody ambience. Unlike my other tracks that might fit this description, this one is centered around the guitar as opposed to synths (although there is a really nice synth solo in the middle).
