I spent several weeks last summer in the UK...where I was there was little to do and it rained a fair bit so I spent a lot of time in the hotel just screwing around with my portable music workstation. I have no idea how this track came about, but I found it again several months later and I've liked it ever since. It also seems just right to kick off a new album.

Dedicated to my wife and her curvilicious figure. This sounds somewhat like St. Germain...and it's the first time I've gone in the direction of this genre (whatever it is: jazz? dance? jance?)

Hmmm...how do I describe this? A trippy, multi-segmented aural journey of crisp melodies and sequenced analogue sounds, meant to accompany me on my trip to the most famous ringed planet. Or something like that.

Part III of my "Theories of Altered Spaces" trilogy."

This is the first tune that I can truly call "industrial"...I've been trying to make an industrial piece for a long time now, and I've come to realize that it's not easy to pull it off without creating something that sounds like crap. This one is instumental...my next goal is to make something with vocals (if I can find a good vocal acapella, or maybe I'll convince Rich to provide some sing-scream-ing).

For fans of classic electronic music, vintage analogue synths and berlin-school sequencing, this is kinda cool. It's probably my most space-y, "out there" track, and shows definite Virgin-era Tangerine Dream influences. Enjoy.

Another moody synthcapade, built around a simple melody.

Upbeat, with a cool bassline. Some nice synths and acoustic guitar. I really like this one.

I had wanted to do a smooth, sultry, latin nightclub-inspired song, and once I found a wicked bassline it all came together pretty easily. On top of the bass is some funky Wurlitzer, electric piano, congas, light synth. I only decided to add a vocal track at the last minute...it just always seemed like something was needed to fill it out. The singing is in Spanish (or is it Portugese?), and I also have no idea what she's singing about, so if anyone knows Spanish, please let me know.

This past summer I got my first Mac―-a MacBook Pro (I have subsequently bought an iMac as well and can officially be considered "converted"). I haven't stopped marvelling at these devices, and I can't believe I waited so long, and missed out on the elegance and simplicity of Apple products for so many years. Anyway, at some point I started playing around with Garage Band. While I still haven't figured out how to use it well (I find it the one exception to the rule that all Apple software is so much better than anything Microsoft creates, although to be fair I suspect my issues with Garage Band are only because I am already so familiar with Acid Pro and I'm too lazy to read the user manual or even follow a tutorial) I did very quickly create the foundation of the song you hear. I couldn't not do anything with it―-it was amazing in that it sounded exactly like what I picture the band I would be playing in if it was 1975 would sound like. It was also amazing in that my grandmother could have created this (such is the magic of the 'Magic Garage Band' interface). So I exported it to my one remaining Windows box so I could edit it in Acid Pro and add the cool spoken-word track from Colin Mutchler on ccMixter that seemed to fit (I've been looking for a way to use his poem for a while now).
