This track is very emotional for me. Not that I had anything particular in mind while writing it, but after it had evolved to a point that I deemed it finished, it just seemed to stir lots of emotions about struggle, perseverence, survival. Lots of interesting percussion, deep pads, a very danceable beat and lots of good analogue synth.
This album has a more mature feel to it than "Occam's Razor".
"Heavy Berlin-school...Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk influences. Part of the "Theories of Altered Spaces Trilogy". Everyone needs a trilogy.
This track reached number 2 on Acid Planet, where I usually post new compositions along with the rest of the Acid Pro community.
This is kinda jazzy, kinda funky...laid back and relaxing at the beginning then it grows in energy until climaxing at the end. Hehe. Funky guitar, interesting, groovy basslines, cool Wurlitzer and sexy vocals in a "scat" style. I think. This was a lot of fun to do.
This is very influenced by early Orbital--could have come right off any of their first four albums. I actually used the sample arrangement from the Pocket Diva loop library CD (where the vocal loops are taken from) to begin it. Very chill, very mellow trance-y...
I started with this really cool bassline, then continued adding more layers that all seemed to work well together...finally ending up with something that is quite groovy and sounds kind of "Orbital"-ish. Starts with clean, simple, electronic sounds, ends with a layer of heavy distored guitar.
In a perfect world the monkey puts it all together. This is a more mainstream (for me) track built around a slow, lush, dreamy synth pad. It's a trippy and somewhat downtempo alternative rock song until about the five minute mark, when I take a more freestyle approach around the central theme and chord progression and do some riffing with bass and guitar.
Lots of analogue synth (glorious Moog!) sequencing, and simple melodies in intertwining layers. I'm chanelling my inner Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis and/or early Depeche Mode. This is also a rather short piece (for me) at 6:00. The obvious Philip K. Dick reference alludes to the sound/theme as well.
Kraftwerk? Daft Punk? 80's-era Tangerine Dream? Giorgio Moroder? Eurythmics? OMD? The influences are many, the beat is quite dancable and the retro analogue synth sound is pervasive.
When I wrote this I was incredibly frustrated with my job at the time and how the company was being run. Despite it being the company that I actually started, through shortsited leadership (or lack of leadership) I found myself as an employee in a situation not unlike Office Space (one of my all-time favourite films).
Starts off quiet, melancholy, evil. The only way I can describe the end is...imagine waking up one day with the ability to fly. It would take some getting to used to, but by the end of the day you really have the hang of it. Picture that sensation when you realize YOU CAN FLY.
A trance-y beat and lots of synth.
